The advice you've been given is all sound advice. Multiple fish captures are fairly rare, but not impossible. Main times for this are late spring and late autumn.

As stated by the other lads, if you're prepared to put some time and effort in, you'll be rewarded. If you're looking for a "runs water", you'd be better off spending your money elsewhere.

Tardebigge has a great set of lads on it, most of whom will help you out, and give you some advice. If you want to have a walk up there, myself and Swimmer's Mate are taking a stroll up there tomorrow afternoon, for a look around. You'd be welcome to join us if you wish.
