THE NET

Post by MARTIN on Mon Aug 09, 2010 7:09 am

The diving team went in on Sun, many thanks to Neil for that, and the conclusion is that the net is intact with no holes and is in contact with the bottom all along its length, there is a place on the left hand side towards the house where it needs raising a bit where the swans are getting over. The conclusion Russ and myself have come to is that the only way fish are getting behind the net is over it!!!!!! The section actually over the gulley is on the surface so we may look at putting a boom or something similar over this section to stop em swimming over it.The other option is to electrofish this area a couple of times a year which is what we are looking into. At the moment though there do not appear to be many fish over there and there are plenty if fish getting caught so it seems to be doing its job.

does it really matter if theres 1 or 5 in there. there are another 70+ out in the lake and they are getting caught and it is getting sorted
Every one was moaning about the "big un" being behind the net but so what if it is there has been 4 or more thirties come out in its place .

Anyway.............

Neil - please pass on our thanks to the guys and gals for helping us out yesterday. They did us a great favour, and we should be looking after these guys. I believe they enjoyed having a dive around the Res, with two of them being keen fishermen themselves. Russ - I hope you don't mind, but I've offered Keith and Terry a few FOC nights fishing (Tel for carp, Keith for eels) as and when they want to fish (midweek - naturally).

It's great to know that the net is in tact, and clearly, the fish are going over it, as opposed to through/under etc. The latter would have involved a lot of work.

I'll sort out some remedial work on the top bit of the net, at some point in the next week, so that it's pucka. Will also have a drift around in the Yak, to see if there are any carp behind the net.

I saw at least one pair of Carp thrashing around behind the net when all the spawning was going on but however many there are it is a negligable amount. The fishing has been a lot more consistant all over the lake than previous years because of the net and that is the main thing. It is no longer the "house and gulley show" for the first three months of the season, everyone is in with a shout.

He would also like to pass on his thanks for all who helped lug their gear upto the sleuce and making them feel welcome.
