OH WHAT A NIGHT !!!! Scruff & Welshman

Wow !!!

Did an overnighter yesterday, with the Scruff, Jimbo and my eldest daughter, Neve (. It was Neve's first night "camping", so I got up to the Res at 10.30am ish, to set up home, get everything sorted etc, ready for the arrival of my "woopsnake" at 6pm. Spent the afternoon, listening on Radio Cymru to the glorious, all conquering Bluebirds demolish Derby 2-1 at Pride Park, whilst making enough rigs to supply a small tackle shop. I also put out a fair bit of bait, and in the (very sporty) north easterly wind/showers, I was throwing the boilies at "10 o'clock" to get them to go straight !!!

Scruff turned up and that was my cue to go and pick up Neve, fish and chips for all who required them, plus some relaxing liquid for James.

After fish and chips, I showed Neve her house for the evening, and quickly got the rods out. Given the difficult conditions, I dropped the leads about 15 yards short of where I wanted to be, but having got "a drop" on both, and massive bows in both "long rod" lines, which took ages to straighten up, I decided to leave them as they were. Another 50 or so boilies went out in their general area, and the traps were set.

Neve read her book for me, and then showed me how to play Soduku, or whatever it's called, whilst we listened to the radio, and generally, goofed about






At 9.30pm, we hit the hay, and both of us were in the land of nod. At about mid night, I got a call from Mr Walters, aka Scruff, saying he had one on the bank. We went over to have a look, and Mark had a 20lb ghostie common. "Superb", I thought, at least she's seen one on the bank.

At 3.30am, my receiver melted down, and I was soon in full "tear up" with, what was clearly, a decent fish. Unfortunately, I had picked up a huge ball of weed on the backlead/flying backlead, and I was getting that horrible grating sensation, as I was winding the fish closer towards me. As I got the "ball of weed" closer, I felt a slight kick, and I was pleased that something alive was still attached. Curiosity got the better of me after 5 minutes, and I stuck the headtorch on, to see what it was. I recognised the fish straight away, as the common I'd photo'd for Mr Grubb at 30lb 3ozs back in May, so my heart now went into 200 beat per minute mode, as I knew it was a real good'un, but there was still a large clump of weed on the line.

Neve called Mark for assistance, and after a further 5 minutes of plodding around in circles, Mark slid the net under a large common. Line cut, and fish unhooked, we called Jim for further assistance, and it was weighed by Scruff at 30lb 10ozs. New PB. Second Tarde 30lber. Awesome !!! As John Wilson would say, I went into "nervous fruit jelly mode", and the photos flew by.








She took a while to recover, but eventually waddled off.






Awesome.

Then at about 7am, Mark was into another, and after a spirited fight, I netted a beautiful, slate grey mirror of 21lb 10ozs for him. One I hadn't seen before.

Neve, on her first night, had seen 3 X 20lb + Tarde carp. She must think it's all very easy !!!

Anyway, I bought a Banner's breakfast for all the lads who were on the lake, as way of celebration, and the seriously spooky thing was........................the Banner's bill came to £30.10p (my carp was 30lb 10ozs !!!).

Thanks to Mark and Jim for their help. Thanks to Neve for being the luckiest good luck charm ever. I'm off to buy a second bedchair and two man bivvy !!!!!!

Anyway - well chuffed. Thanks for all the texts. Over the moon !!!
