Worcestershire Carp Venues
Alright fellas
An appeal to fellow Carpers for some support if you may be so good as to oblige.....?
I have been very kindly allowed an opportunity by Paddy Webb of Carp Talk to do the magazine's regional catch reports for Worcestershire. Basically this involves building up a rapport with fishery owners so they tell me who's caught what on their water each week in return for some free publicity. I need to gather information and submit the reports by mid-day each Tuesday when the magazine goes to press. This is an opportunity that I'd really like to make a go of but to be honest when I write a list of possible venues to approach there isn't really many in the county that you would associate with "proper" Carp angling. The stipulation is that the venues need to be open access/day ticket waters rather than syndicates/club waters. So, can anyone suggest a few waters that may fit the bill that aren't too match orientated but still attract Carp/specimen anglers and contain decent fish that are worthy of reporting?
So far I have thought of....
Evesham Vale - Pending further investigation as to whether or not this venue is even open!!!
Larford - If even the Specimen Lake hasnt been completely overun by 100m lengths of creakin' carbon!!!
Witley fisheries - I thought The Dingle Pool may be of interest, perhaps?
Brockamin - Im lead to believe that this water attracts Carpers and that theres one or two decent fish in there to over mid-20s (Can anyone shed any light?)
Top Barn - I know Neil "swimmers mate" Jones likes to have a bash on here now and again. (Maybe you can advise me on this one Neil?)
Grove Farm - Does anyone have any contact details for this as I cant find anything on the net?
Evesbatch - Scene of one of Davvy's proudest accomplishments!!! (Lets not go there!)
Sion Farm - The place I caught my very first Cypry and where everyone used to fish during the 90's. You had to queue for a peg and you couldn't see the water for floating bread and mixers. A water that is seldom mentioned by anyone these days.... why not?
Forgive me if one or two of these would seem a bit "iffy" but as I have never been to half of them I am only speculating.
I know that probably the best and most obvious one would be Shatterford but Roy Russell already covers this one under his Midlands report.
Obviously the venues need to be ones where the owners are "in touch" with what goes on on their fishery. Ones who can give reliable info and details like baits, swims and rigs etc. I need to try and aim for the maximum 500 words per week but the space is also an opportunity to make any relevant local announcements i.e If a Tackle Shop was to open somewhere, or details of Angling related events going on etc.
Well thanks for reading boys. Tough call but I hope that this has got the old Grey matter ticking. I just know that somebody can suggest better ones than I have thought of! Like I say, it is a post that I'm really interested in filling and contributing to regularly and will continue to pursue providing I can get in with enough venues.
Cheers lads. Any help or suggestions from anybody would be greatly appreciated!!
Mike

Hi Mike
Not being a local, I'm not overly "up" on the local seen. However, have a think about Astwood Bank, Alvechurch Fishery (rumour of a KHV outbreak, mind you). How's about Dormston, Arrow Valley etc? How's about the canal?

Hi mike
Eversham vale is now been taken over by astwood bank angling club as a syndicate.
It's a hard one bud as there really arnt many bigger fish lakes round the area even private ones
That's why Russ and mart started the res

Hi mate,
Top Barn is about as good as it gets day ticket wise around here i rekon. Plenty of fish to go at upto 26lb i think but you may have to be a little sneaky with reports as most fish are caught on boillie which is banned. Grove is a club water now and sion is a waste of time mate, last time i popped up there it was awful. Loads of old brummies fishing surface controllers on pods/alarms etc..... I hear from alan's tackle in worcester that brockamin has done a 30 with some back up 20's but i fished it last year and caught plenty but only upto about 15lb. Hope this is of use to you mate, if i think of any other venues i'll give you a shout.

Re: Worcestershire Carp Venues
How about Holt Pool opposite Top Barn where the skips used to be? Used to stalk there a bit, not been there for years because idiots started populating it fishing whole slices of white bread on size 4's. Nice pools though with good few 20's back then. Old boy who collected the money wasn't particularly clued up or interested though so you might struggle to find out info.
Also how about the rivers? Knew a few Barbel turned Carp boys who used to target certain stretches, had one myself, but it all went a bit quiet after the floods. Pm me if any use.
Know you don't want clubs / syndicates but BAA lakes used to have some good fish in them.

Re: Worcestershire Carp Venues
Yeah BAA is a possibility as day tickets are available on their waters particularly Dormston but who could I contact each week for reliable information? Surely those at their head office wouldnt really have a clue what had been out, thats my only worry but its worth chasing up on the off chance. As for Holt Pools Im waiting for the Bailiff at Top Barn to get back to me tomorrow so I'll ask about them then. Cheers for the info Rich, Much appreciated.
