VERY VERY sad news - The Mere
Hiya chaps
Was just having a browse around various carping sites, and it looks as if everything in the Mere, including other species, has died on Sunday/Monday of this week, due to an algae bloom/oxygen crash. Very very sad news for the carp fishing fraternity, given that particular lake includes the Black Mirror, possibly THE best looking, and sought after carp in the country.
Mike Wilmott's Essential Baits site statement here http://www.essentialproducts.co.uk/#/the-mere/4543346301
I'm not really one for getting upset about specific fish. Of course, it's very sad etc, but this fish is different. I've read Terry Hearn, Dave Lane, Steve Pagulatos and Jason Hayward's accounts of their guesting at the Mere, and it really does fire the imagination and get the hair on the back of your neck standing to attention.
RIP

It's sad to say but the old super stars of the carp world are slowly going one by one to the big lake in the sky but lakes like the res are bringing on the new blood that will have their own stories told one day

Re: VERY VERY sad news - The Mere
Exactly the same thing happened at Adams pool the catfish water i was running for the CCG a few years ago, even the crayfish were crawling out of the water to try and get oxygen. Its not a very pleasent experience burning piles of dead fish, so i know how the guys down there are feeling. Unfortunately its a freak occurance of nature and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it !!!!
