Pike tutorial day - Sat 13th & Sun 14th November 2010 (days only)

A pike tutorial will be held on the above dates (days only). Any questions ring Jim Gilbert 07894116485. Those who consider themselves to be competent pike anglers can commence fishing as of 1/11/10. Short but sweet, i know but my computer crashed half way through the original detailed version.

Are we producing / publishing any rules for the Pike fishing?

Short term rules for pike season. Semi-barbless treble hooks only, max size 4, Min 14" 20lb b/s wire trace. Normal carp care gear, large landing net, large unhooking mats, soft weigh slings, water bucket. Long artery forceps 8" min, side cutters 8" min, no gags or gaffs! Sea deadbaits only. Lures to be semi barbed avoiding oversize treble hooks. Min 15lb b/s mono mainline. Min 25lb b/s braid mainline. Any other questions bell me on above mob number. Cheers, jimbo.

For what its worth Keith Arthur was saying on the radio that one of the waters that opened up for Pike fishing recently imposed a single hooks only rule as a pilot scheme to see how it would work and it was found that the ratio of fish hooked and landed was still as high as previous years when trebles were allowed. Maybe something one or two might want to try. It will certainly reduce the time the fish are kept out of the water!

Fair comment Mike, anything to ease the unhooking process. Guys, if your familiar with handling pike, we'd appreciate your input on the tutorial day, even if you don't fish, experienced pikers would be helpful to the cause. Thanks again.

Hi simon, livebaiting will not be allowed for the 1st pike angling season, we may consider it in the future. Subjects of that nature will probably be put to a vote at one of our members meetings. Sea deadbaits and lures only at moment.
